Quran Player: Twenty Reciters, English Audio, and Bookmarks That Stick

By Yahya , GABLVM Staff, 9 May 2026

The Quran Player on GABLVM is a fully accessible Quran listening experience built around the way blind and low vision users actually navigate audio. Twenty reciters. Optional English audio translation. Full keyboard and screen reader control. Bookmarks that hold their place. It is the centerpiece of our Islamic tools, and it has matured steadily since the site launched in February 2026.

Twenty reciters

Listen to the Quran in twenty different recitation styles, including Mishary Rashid Alafasy, Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Saad Al-Ghamdi, and Maher Al-Muaiqly. Switch between reciters mid-surah without losing your place. Each recitation streams from a verified high-quality source.

English audio translation, narrated by a human voice

Alongside the Arabic recitation, you can play an English audio translation. This is real spoken audio, not text-to-speech. We chose human narration so the meaning of the verses is delivered with the same clarity and pacing as the Arabic recitation. The English audio is optional and can be toggled per session.

Built for VoiceOver and the keyboard

Every control on the Quran Player is reachable from the keyboard. Press space to play or pause, arrow keys to skip verses, and number keys to jump to a specific surah. Screen reader users get clear announcements when the surah changes, when a verse boundary is crossed, and when playback ends. Nothing is announced more often than necessary, so the player does not interrupt your screen reader with constant updates.

As of May 8, 2026, the player also supports the iOS Magic Tap gesture. VoiceOver users on an iPhone can play and pause recitation with a two-finger double-tap, even when the GABLVM tab is in the background. The same change wires the player into the iOS lock-screen and headphone controls.

Bookmarks that hold their place

If you stop in the middle of a surah, the player remembers exactly where you left off. The next time you open the page, it offers to resume from your last verse. Bookmarks work in two complementary modes: a per-surah resume point so each chapter remembers your progress independently, and a single global bookmark for your most recent listening session.

If you pause right as a verse ends, the bookmark captures the next verse, not the one that just finished. That matches the natural rhythm of how people pause: at the break, intending to pick up where you stopped.

Personal notes

You can attach private notes to specific verses. Notes are stored against your account and accessible from the player as well as from the My Quran Account page. If you connect your Quran.com account, your notes sync there too. See the Quran.com Account Sync post for details on how the link works.

How to find it

If you have feedback or run into anything that does not announce correctly with VoiceOver, JAWS, or NVDA, write to [email protected].
